INTRODUCTION
AZTEQIS is a dynamic board game for 2–4 players, where strategy, decision-making, and timing play a key role. Every move can bring you closer to victory or completely change the situation on the board.
You control two pawns, react to your opponents’ actions, and use special fields and online cards. Each game is different — fast-paced, unpredictable, and full of interaction.
PHILOSOPHY
AZTEQIS is built on a balance between randomness and decision-making.
The die determines movement, but you decide which pawn to move and when to take risks. Special fields and the Dynamic Card Token constantly reshape the situation on the board.
This is a game about choices — not just luck.
COMPONENTS
Game board with 64 spaces
2 pawns for each player (same color)
1 die
6 Dynamic Card Tokens (QR access to online cards)
1 NFC keychain with access to online cards, instructions, and add-ons
1 NFC keychain with access to the 8doodles platform
RULES
The goal of the game is to be the first player to move at least one of your pawns to the final space.
Each player controls two pawns and chooses which one to move during their turn.
Pawns move across the board following directional arrows — in a “snake-like” pattern (right to left, then left to right), progressing upward row by row.
The starting and ending spaces are marked in light green with a player icon and are located on the left side of the board.
The game is played in turns — players take actions one after another.
MOVEMENT SYSTEMS
Before the game begins, players choose one of the two special field activation modes:
- STANDARD MODE — Only Natural Landing
Field effects activate only when a pawn lands on them as a result of a standard die roll.
- CHAOS MODE — Every Touch Counts
Field effects always activate, regardless of how the pawn arrives on the space.
Each field effect activates only once per move.
If a field moves a pawn, it does not trigger the same effect repeatedly in a loop.
STARTING SPACES
All pawns begin the game on the starting space.
No additional conditions are required to enter the game — the first move happens immediately after rolling the die.
OCCUPIED SPACES AND CAPTURE
If a pawn lands on a space occupied by an opponent’s pawn — it captures it.
By default, a captured pawn returns to the starting space.
The Guardian Shield effect is an exception — if a pawn is protected by it, it cannot be captured.
Only one pawn may occupy a space at a time.
Optionally, you may use an alternative rule: instead of returning to start, a captured pawn moves 10 spaces backward.
In this variant, a retreating pawn may land on another pawn and capture it, adding more dynamic interactions to the game.
TOKENS AND ONLINE CARDS
The Dynamic Card Token introduces an additional layer of strategy.
When your pawn lands on a token space:
- draw an online card (QR code)
- resolve its effect
- move the token to any other space
The token may only be placed on an empty space — one that is not occupied by a pawn.
It cannot be placed on another token, nor on the starting or final space.
If the token is placed on a special field — that field’s effect is temporarily disabled.
This allows you to influence the board strategically — blocking key spaces, limiting opponents’ movement, or creating safer paths. Smart token placement often determines the outcome of the game.
SPECIAL FIELDS
- Guardian Shield: Protects the pawn from capture during the next turn.
If an opponent lands on this space, the pawn is not captured.
- Path Lock: Move your pawn back to the nearest previous Path Lock space.
If the space is occupied, place the pawn on the nearest available next space of this type.
- Secret Passage: Move your pawn forward to the nearest next Secret Passage space.
If the space is occupied, place the pawn on the nearest available next space of this type.
- Swap Gate: Swap your pawn with the nearest opponent’s pawn on the board.
- Sun Charge: Roll the die again and perform an additional move.
- Motion Shift: Roll the die and move your pawn by the rolled number of spaces in the direction indicated by the arrows on the field.
- Dynamic Card Token: Draw an online card and move the token to a new space.
GAME MODES
The game can be modified by choosing one of the following modes:
- Safe Path Mode: Field effects do not activate during backward movement or jumps.
- Crazy Path Mode: Field effects always activate, regardless of how the pawn reaches the space.
- Precision Strike Mode (2 Dice System): The game uses two dice: white and black. The white die determines the standard movement. The black die activates an additional “strike” effect. After completing the movement based on the white die, check the result of the black die. The check is performed relative to the pawn’s final position after movement. If the black die shows a number, check all spaces in vertical and horizontal directions (not diagonally) at exactly that distance. If any opponent pawns are located on those spaces — they are captured. The effect applies to all opponent pawns within range. Your own pawns remain unaffected. This effect activates only once per turn and does not trigger special fields or influence movement.
